Warmup You have 4 minutes to answer these questions with your group 1. Name two ways a person can be a U.S. citizen. 2. Name the amendment number that defines U.S. citizenship. 3. What is the process to become a citizen called?

So now you’re a citizen, what does that mean?

DUTIES-THINGS YOU ARE REQUIRED (HAVE TO DO) OR YOU CAN BE PUNISHED BY THE GOVERNMENT WITH FINES OR JAIL.

OBEY THE LAW Example: Speed limits

Pay Taxes Example: Property tax, income tax

Serve in the armed forces if called (draft) Ex: Young men must register by age 18

Serve on a jury if called (jury duty) Ex: the court sends a letter that you are needed for a trial
