Presentation transcript:

THE HUMAN BODY Skeletal System Function: *protection *structure for our bodies *locomotion

ORGANS: BONES -Made of cells --living, growing tissue

Bone Marrow -Soft, spongy tissue inside hard exterior -Produces red blood cells Bone exterior Bone marrow

Nutrients needed for strong bones are: Calcium Phosphorous Vitamin D

LIGAMENTS -attach bone to bone.

-cushions between bones CARTILAGE -cushions between bones

-connect muscles to bones TENDONS -connect muscles to bones

JOINTS--Points where bones come together. Hinge Joints Back and forth movement like a hinge Ex. knees, fingers, elbows

Ball & Socket Joints Move in all directions. Ex. hip, shoulder Pivot Joints Turn or rotate like door knobs. Ex. neck

Gliding Joints Bones glide over each other. Ex. ankle, wrist Fixed Joints Joints are fused together. Ex. skull

Fun Fact Most people have 206 bones in their body
