Interaction between biological (diathesis) and environment (stress) Interaction between biological (diathesis) and environment (stress). Both are in varying degrees. Diathesis is genetic. Research into twin studies such…? Twin studies inconclusive Trauma, life event, urbanisation Varese ‘12 trauma pre age 6 2x more likely to get it. Vassos et al ‘12 2.37 higher risk in urbanised. Stress+Diathesis=disorder 303 145 adopted away from Schizophrenic mum (high risk) 115 adoptees (low risk) Tienari/Gottesman ‘91 2 parents=46% 1 parent 13% Tienari/Varese/Vassos Tiernari- only interviewed at one point, hard to tell if family or adoptee was the stressed one or not. Not 100% conclusive. Varese and Vasos correlational. Could be a stressful life event in itself? Biological? Birth abnormality? Hard to identify and address the real causes Both bio and psych. Borglum et al ’14 ntiviral medication during pregnancy.
