Ten Rhetorical Steps # Paragraphs. (Use pencil.) Circle the author and the title. Highlight first 3 words of every paragraph in green or draw a box. Read entire article. Re-read article and circle key words that summarize each paragraph. Write one or two key words for each paragraph in the margin.

Ten Rhetorical Steps continued Highlight all statistics and dates in yellow or draw stars. Highlight any names of experts, people, organizations, or locations (countries, states, cities or towns) that the author is referencing to in blue or underline. Highlight “quotes” in orange or circle the entire quote. 10. Create several Why and How questions in the margins to ask the audience. *Review other articles until discussion begins.
