DR.DAVIDE LE VOCI NOTAIO Via Giolitti Giovanni,15, Torino INTRODUCTION The entrance I want to introduce is squeezed in the façade of a large housing building. It seems a little crowded with a low gate. However it becomes more sublime with two thick, dark color columns. The simplicity distinguishes the entrance, making it more highlighted.

CONTEXT The office is situated in the city center, near to many other situations such as Centro di Documentazione and Torino Incontra. What’s more it’s near to Piazza S. Carlo. In conclusion, where the office stands is an area having mixed function of commercial, politics and culture. The space in front of the office emphasizes the different function of it. In modern arrangement of streets, it is rare to use the façade of the building to close the view at the end of the street.

DETAILS Instead of a base for the column, it stands on the 1st step of the stairs. The thick column was divided into two slender columns by a rectangular groove, in which case we can find the trace of superimposed orders in this modern column. This design managed to make the entrance more elegant instead of boring and simple. The entablature above the column also acts as the frame of the entrance. Much simpler than the classic. The frame retreats layer-by-layer reminds me of the corbeled domes.

REASONS FOR CHOOSING When people cast a glance at the entrance of the office, the classical forms may be the last things that will cross their mind. Then what is the origin of this modern building? However, when I scrutinized it, surprisingly, I found the entrance shares some common with the classics. Harder the architects tried to rid his work of classical elements, more obvious is the trace. The building bring me into deep thoughts of the connection between classic and modernity. Though someone may look down upon the past time, they can never deny the fact that the past is his origin.
