Personal Characteristics

1. empathy-means being able to identify with and understand another person’s feelings, situation, and motives 2. honesty-truthfulness and integrity and important in any career field 3. dependability-employers and patients rely on you, so you must accept responsibility 4. willingness to learn-you must be willing to learn and to adapt to changes

5. acceptance of criticism-patients, employers, co-workers, and others may criticize you 6. enthusiasm-you must enjoy your work and display a positive attitude 7. patience- you must be tolerant and understanding 8. self-motivation-self-initiative, is the ability to begin or to follow through with a task

9. tact-being tactful means having the ability to say or do the kindest or most fitting 10. competence-being competent means that you are qualified and capable of performing task 11. responsibility-implies being willing to be held accountable for your actions

12. discretion-you must always use good judgment in what you do 13. team player- in any health care you will become part of a team; learn to work well with others
