Unit 2: Equilibrium Lesson 7: Le Chatelier and the Keq

What does Keq really mean? Since Keq is the ratio of products to reactants... A large Keq means that a large amount of products is present. A small Keq means that a small amount of products is present.

Piecing Things Together Given the meaning of Keq and considering what you know about Le Chatelier’s Principle, how will Keq change if... the concentration of a reactant is increased? a catalyst is added? the pressure is increased in the equilibrium system: 2 C2H6(s) + 7 O2(g) 6 H2O(l) + 4 CO2(g)? the temperature is decreased in the equilibrium system: 2 NO(g) + Cl2(g) 2 NOCl(g) + 76 kJ? TPS each question – 20 min

Summary ONLY a temperature change can effect the value of Keq. Changes in concentration and pressure have no effect on Keq.
