Presentation transcript:

Grace Fellowship Church www.GraceDoctrine.org Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard Thursday, February 26, 2009 Title Page Below are some simple instructions on how to use this template: 1. You can change the text in the graphical screen above or in the outline area to the left. 2. There is one default background that is indicated by “--------” .This slide acts as a space or a blank screen, use to clear or blank the screen. If you have a large graphic such as a map you could also use this screen. If you insert a new slide you will get this default background. 3. The first five slides have the other backgrounds for the set. To use more than one of these background types in your presentation highlight the one you wish to use and choose copy from the edit menu. Paste this slide where you want it to appear in your presentation, then change the text on this new slide. By copy/pasting the slide in this manor you will keep the background, text formatting and the customized animation from that slide. By using the copy/paste method you find it saves you time and keeps a consistent look through out your presentation. 4.There are a few additional notes written in the slide text wording that may be helpful. Note: We are working on a website that in the future will provide help topics on using sermon outlines in PowerPoint as well as provide sermon templates similar to this one. Check www.sermon-outlines.com for more information.

Memory Verse John 13:34, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

The Twelve Apostles 1. Simon-Peter 2. Andrew 3. John 4. James 5. Philip 6. Bartholomew 7. Thomas 8. Matthew, Levi 9. Simon the Zealot 10. James, the son of Alphaeus 11. Thaddaeus 12. Paul

His Role in the Early Church: He proposed the vacancy caused by Judas should be filled, Acts 1:15-26, and he was first on the day of Pentecost to proclaim salvation to all, Acts 2:14-40.

Many times he defended his companions and Christianity in the courts, Acts 4:19-20; 5:17-21; 29-32, and was imprisoned several times.

Peter did not emerge as the leader of either the Jewish or Gentile church. He instead committed to serve as a bridge holding together the diverse strands of primitive Christianity. Mat 16:17-19; Acts 10-11

His Missions: Peter left Jerusalem and labored in Samaria, then returned to Jerusalem, and reported to the church the results of his work. Acts 8:14-25

He remained there for a period, met Paul, Acts 9:26-30; Gal 1:18, then left Jerusalem again, going to Lydda and Joppa, Acts 9:32-43, and to Caesarea meeting Cornelius, Acts 10.

After remaining for some time at Caesarea, he returned to Jerusalem, Acts 11:1-18, where he defended his conduct with reference to the Gentiles.

Next he was cast into prison by Herod Agrippa, Acts 12:1-19; but an angel of the Lord opened the prison gates, and he went to the house of Mary.

He took part in the deliberations of the council in Jerusalem, Acts 15:1-31; Gal 2:1-10, regarding the relation of the Gentiles to the church.

Then it appears he went to Antioch, was guilty of false pretense, and reprimanded by Paul. Gal 2:11-16

Then it appears he traveled Paul's routes until arriving at Rome, "Babylon”, 1 Peter 5:13, where he was martyred.

His Legacy: It is thought that he inspired the writing of the first Gospel - Mark, Peter's interpreter in Rome, and he wrote 1 and 2 Peter.

1 Peter was sent to churches in northern Asia Minor - the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. He also had a great following in Corinth. 1 Cor 1:12; 3:22.

A group of devotees produced several writings in his name; the Acts of Peter, and the Gospel of Peter.

There are also several apocryphal books where Peter is prominent called Acts of: Peter and Andrew, Peter and the Twelve, and Peter and Paul

Peter is a great example of the developing disciple, one who, through the power of the risen Lord, rose above his faults to become a towering figure on the church scene.

Foxes book of Martyrs: Tradition holds that Peter was martyred in Rome by Nero in the 60’s. He requested to be crucified, upside down saying, “I am unworthy to be crucified after the same form and manner as the Lord was”.
