What are the biggest problems that face the world today? ASK What are the biggest problems that face the world today? >Identify key development-related problems ICTs as potential tool to try to address development problems, but can they do so? Aim of course: to help you understand how and to what extent, ICTs can help fix these problems and deliver development goals. Why do this? See textbook Introduction text. Course Aims On successful completion of this course you will be able to: analyse the generic contribution of ICTs to international development analyse the role of policy, strategy and operational interventions in promoting effective developmental use of ICTs identify key roles, challenges and questions in the application of ICTs to specific development goals apply critical conceptual frameworks to analyse ICT4D evidence and practice Course aims.

Course Content 1. Understanding ICTs and Socio-Economic Development 2. Foundations of ICTs and Socio-Economic Development 3. Implementing ICT4D 4. ICTs and Economic Growth 5. ICTs, Poverty and Livelihoods 6. ICTs and Social Development 7. e-Governance and Development 8. ICTs and Environmental Sustainability 9. The Future of ICT4D 10. *Visit / External Speaker / Lab Session* Run through ten-session structure, including content of non-chapter-related session.

Course Assignment Select one major international development goal. In your essay, explain the goal; analyse whether and how ICTs can help deliver that goal; and provide relevant policy/practice recommendations. *Word length; deadline* Course assignment.
