The Nervous System
Nervous System The part of an organism that gathers, processes, and responds to information is called the nervous system The basic functioning units are called neurons Nervous system receives information from your different senses by using things called sense receptors
Nervous System Cont’d The sense receptors respond to stimuli and send signals to your brain These signals travel via the neurons When your brain gets information, it will process it and send it out as a response The bain also stores information as memories
Central Nervous System The CNS is the brain and spinal cord Receives, processes, stores, and transfers the information
Spinal Cord Tubelike structure of neurons These neurons extend out to other areas of the body It allows information to be sent and received by the brain
Peripheral Nervous System Has sensory and motor neurons that transmit information between the CNS & the rest of the body
