introduction COPD: High burden, great economic and social impact in all over the world. In Vietnam: Prevalence of COPD estimated 4.2% in populations > 40 years old (7.1% in men and 1.9% in women). Ngo Quy Chau (2008): Direct cost for 1 hospitalisation of COPD was € 273. There is still little awareness of this problem among the general public, media, health care, communities. introduction Vietnam national project for prevention and management of COPD and asthma carried out in 2011: Training, screening, guideline, media… Improve the quality of diagnosis and management of COPD is one of its objectives One of challenges in diagnosis and management of COPD in Vietnam is KAP of medical doctors. Assess KAP of MD before intervention

Objective To determine the knowledge, attitude and practices (KAP) regarding to diagnosis and management of COPD among medical doctors in hospitals of 10 cities and provinces in the Northern Vietnam.

Methods Study design: A cross - sectional study Subjects: 467 medical doctors in hospitals of 10 cities and provinces in the Northern Vietnam Time: From August to Octorber 2012

Methods Collecting data tools : A standardized questionaires Risk factor of COPD: 2 questions Spirometry: 3 questions Diagnosis and treatment of COPD: 22 questions Collecting information methods Self-assessment – medical doctors fill out questionnaire before training course

Conclusion Majority of medical doctors did not fully understand the risk factors of COPD 14.8% of MD answered 3 correct spirometry indicators necessary for diagnosis of COPD 10% of MD answered 4 factors affecting Spirometry test results

Conclusion Only 23.5% of MD answered correctly the staging of COPD according GOLD 2011 Only 14.3% of MD guided patients to use drug delivery devices in the prescription. No MD described all steps of using drug delivery devices There is lack of awareness and urgent need for education on diagnosis and management of COPD for Vietnamese medical doctors
