QUiZ Questions -HIV And AiDS

What does HIV stand for? Human Immunodeficiency Virus

What does AIDS stand for? Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome

What is the difference between HIV and Aids? AIDS is a condition. HIV is a virus that may cause an infection, but AIDS is a condition or a syndrome. Being infected with HIV can lead to the development of AIDS. AIDS develops when HIV has caused serious damage to the immune system.

What is your CD4 count? A CD4 count is a lab test that measures the number of CD4 T lymphocytes (CD4 cells) in a sample of your blood. In people with HIV, it is the most important laboratory indicator of how well your immune system is working and the strongest predictor of HIV progression.

What are the 3 broad ways you can contract HIV? Sexual interaction Mother to child Blood and blood products

How do you develop Aids? This is the stage of HIV infection that occurs when your immune system is badly damaged and you become vulnerable to opportunistic infections . When the number of your CD4 cells falls below 200 cells per cubic millimeter of blood (200 cells/mm3), you are considered to have progressed to AIDS.

How does somebody know that they have HIV? Through testing

Should you wait for symptoms to appear before getting tested for HIV Should you wait for symptoms to appear before getting tested for HIV? Explain. No The first stage of HIV is asymptomatic. This means that there are no symptoms and so you do not feel any different to the way that you felt before. The only way you will know if you are HIV positive is if you get tested.

Is there a cure for HIV? No There is treatment though, and if effectively managed HIV positive people can live out a long life.
