The CORE exams for Indiana teacher licensing Student Teaching Seminar

CORE exams and preparation Everyone will need a CORE Developmental (Pedagogy) Area Assessment 005 Elementary Education (K-6) Pedagogical Knowledge exam 006 Secondary Education (5-12) Pedagogical Knowledge exam Our students typically do very well on the Pedagogy exams!

Secondary Education CORE Content Exams 025 Sp Needs: Mild Interventions 048 Economics 029 Fine Arts – Theatre 050 Government and Citizenship (Political Science) 030 Fine Arts - Visual Arts 051 Historical Perspectives (History) 035 Mathematics 055 French 043 Chemistry 059 Spanish 045 Life Science (Biology and Environmental Biology) 066 Health 047 Physics 067 Physical Education

062 Subtest 3: Science, Health and Physical Education Elementary Education CORE CORE Content Exams (Consists of Four Subtests 060 Subtest 1: Reading/ELA 061 Subtest 2: Math 062 Subtest 3: Science, Health and Physical Education 063 Subtest 4: Social Studies and Fine Arts Students may choose to schedule these subtests all in one sitting or separately - in any order. Only subtests not passed must be retaken.

These tests are very difficult and require diligent study and preparation How to prepare? Go to https://education.hanover.edu/licensing/exams.php for links, tips, and resources. The single most important piece is the Assessment Blueprint for your content area which lays out what the test may have. You may want to work with your major advisors for assistance with unfamiliar areas. Other than Elementary Education, other majors do not necessarily prepare you for the CORE licensing exams. You may even have to “teach yourself” some of the content.

Sample of Assessment Blueprint

There are many other tools for preparing too! To purchase Practice Tests from the testing administrator: http://www.in.nesinc.com/

The Educator Preparation program strongly recommends you prepare and take your content area tests EARLY for several reasons!! Job fairs for teaching positions begin as early as February! It is very valuable to be able to say that you have passed your licensing exams. If you have difficulties, you have time to take retests and still get your license immediately following graduation. While you are still on campus, you have more resources available to help. ( i.e. The Gladish Center tutors, course instructors, and advisors)
