1 If then Wheres SWSPARQL? Who needs/uses pre- and postconditions? ??? WSMO OWL-SSAWSDLWSDL RIF OWL RDFS XML WSMX Protégé About 10 years after LARKS, and 6 after the first papers on Semantic Web service discovery, what did we learn? and what is still missing?

2 Discovery has been envisioned as one of the main activities in SOA, indeed 2 of the 3 arcs in the SOA triangle are about discovery. But is discovery really that important? Yes, discovery is needed as Search engines were needed to make the Web usable… but Is discovery needed for automated location or is discovery needed for support of the human developer only? If the latter: where are the convenient search engines for services? (not talking about WSDL services only here but also HTTP Get services! Shouldnt it be possible to crawl them?) Yahoo Pipes are a first step for purely data-driven services: –Make it easy to republish, combine and mashup your/others discovered services, I dont see anybody publishing their BPELs for cool compositions they did on the Web.

3 Are there new forms of discovery to address new forms of service? For example, how does discovery fit with Web 2.0 or with whatever you think Web 3.0 will be? If Web 2.0 was AJAX, Web 3.0 adds a social component… Do we need to add this social component to SWS (discovery)… You are doing this (manually) already: Ask your friends for recommendations which services they used/found useful social QoS

4 New challenges - summary: How can the Web help for highly dynamic scenarios (news much more recent on blogs than on official news channels) add the social component Create + PROMOTE lightweight service description vocabularies and ontologies! Think different (from LARKS, FIPA), etc., be Web! … and BTW: I think SAWSDL is a great start … and BTW,BTW: Is there a way to bring SWSC and S3 together?
