Multiply Decimals and Mixed Decimals with Factors up to 2 Decimal Places LUCILA G. MACABANTE MASTER TEACHER 1 – SALACOT E/S SAN MIGUEL SOUTH - BULACAN

OBJECTIVE The learner multiplies decimals and mixed decimals with factors up to 2 decimal places. M6NS-Ie-111.3

Motivation Do you know how much we weigh on the Moon? To find out, we need to multiply our weight on Earth by approximately 0.17 so we would know our weight on the Moon.

Presentation Louis, an astronaut, will travel to the moon to do some explorations on its surface. He weighs 63 kg here on Earth. What would be his weight when he lands on the moon?

Discussion A - What is asked? G - What are given? O - What is the operation to be used? N - What is the number sentence? A - What is the correct answer?

Discussion Number Sentence: To multiply decimals: 63 kg x o.17 = N Number Sentence: To multiply decimals: Line up the numbers on the right - do not align the decimal points. Starting on the right, multiply each digit in the top number by each digit in the bottom number, just as with whole numbers. Add the products. Count the no. of decimal places and put the decimal point 63 X 0.17 441 63___ 10.71

Another Example: 3.4 x 2.6 204 68 8.84

Think Pair-Share Find each product. 1.) 3.4 x 0.6 2.) 24.2 X 0.7 3.) 34.5 x 0.8 4.) 3.9 x 0.32 5.) 12.7 x 0.15 2.04 16.94 24.15 1.248 1.905

Fixing Skills Encircle the statement that gives the greater product. 1. 0.29 x 0.8 0.29 x 0.08 2. 5.4 x 0.17 5.4 x 1.7 3. 0.32 x 0.9 0.32 x 0.09 4. 2.6 x 4.7 0.26 x .47 5. 0.41 x 1.6 4.1 x .16

Fixing Skills Encircle the statement that gives the greater product. 1. 0.29 x 0.8 0.29 x 0.08 2. 5.4 x 0.17 5.4 x 1.7 3. 0.32 x 0.9 0.32 x 0.09 4. 2.6 x 4.7 0.26 x .47 5. 0.41 x 1.6 4.1 x .16

Application A student assistant in a university earns ₱35 per hour. The table below shows the number of hours she worked each day during a certain week. Day Hours Monday 3.5 Tuesday 2.25 Wednesday 2.75 Thursday 2.2 Friday 4.10 How much did she earn each day? 2) How much did each earn in that week?

How do we multiply decimals and mixed decimals? Generalization How do we multiply decimals and mixed decimals? How do you know where to place the decimal point in the product?

Evaluation The product of 2.5 and 3.45 is _____. Complete each statement. The product of 2.5 and 3.45 is _____. 2) 18.72 times 2.9 is ______. 3) 2.35 x 1.6 = _____. 24.56 multiplied by 3.5 is equal to ___. 5) 3.57 multiplied by 14.2, the answer is ____.

Evaluation Complete each statement. 1) The product of 2.5 and 3.45 is _____. 8.625 2) 18.72 times 2.9 is ______. 54.288 3) 2.35 x 1.6 = _____. 3.76 24.56 multiplied by 3.5 is equal to ___. 85.96 5) 3.57 multiplied by 14.2, the answer is ___. 50.694

Assignment Put the decimal point in the correct place in the product. 1) 1.2 x 6 = 7 2 2) 12.4 x 0.78 = 9 6 7 2 3) 3.34 x 1.4 = 4 6 7 6 4) 2.3 x 12.3 = 2 8 2 9 5) 2.34 x 1.23 = 2 8 7 8 2
