SP attenuates oxidative stress of diabetic corneal epithelium. SP attenuates oxidative stress of diabetic corneal epithelium. Topical SP application for 4 days was used to examine the attenuation of oxidative stress in diabetic corneal epithelium. SP restored the ROS and GSH staining in diabetic corneal epithelium to similar levels as those in normal corneal epithelium (A). SP elevated the mRNA transcript levels of antioxidant genes MnSOD, catalase, NQO1, GCLC, TXN, and Hmox1 (n = 4 per group) (B), as well as the staining density and protein levels of NQO1, catalase, and MnSOD in diabetic corneal epithelium, as compared with that in untreated diabetic corneal epithelium (n = 4 per group) (C and D). *P < 0.05.
