All signed schedules are due back by Wednesday, May 11! 6th Grade Registration All signed schedules are due back by Wednesday, May 11!

6th Grade Required Courses All 6th graders will take these classes: English Math Science Social Studies PE

6th Grade Elective Courses 6th graders may choose 1 elective from the following list: Beginning Chorus Beginner Band Reading

What should my child choose? All 6th graders will take the same Social Studies and science courses. Your child will also be registered into the appropriate PE course, but you have some decisions to make about the rest of your child’s schedule, though!

Advanced vs. Standard Advanced Courses - In order to register for these courses, a student must have an overall 90 average in the corresponding 5th grade course. All students who are seated in the advanced courses will be in the Ready range of their ACT Aspire test and will be at or above grade level on their STAR reading benchmark test. If your child registers for an advanced course but does not qualify, we will move them into the appropriate standard course.

Advanced vs. Standard Standard courses – 95% of your children will take standard courses! These courses will move at a pace that your students are used to and will prepare them for 7th grade!

Electives Choose 1 Beginning Chorus - Beginning chorus is used to enforce the basic music skills that have been used in the music program in 5th grade. Students will learn to sing Unison (single lined) music and apply that to new music. They will learn to sight sing as well. They will perform at 2 different concerts and also competition in the spring. The class requires a fee of $38 per student for travel, music and a t shirt.

Electives Choose 1 Beginning Band - Students will learn to read music, play a wind or percussion instrument, and perform in a couple of concerts in preparation for Intermediate Band or Marching Band.  This group requires some at home practice as homework, but very little or no after school practices.

Electives Choose 1 Reading- Reading focuses on building students’ reading abilities, including fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking. The CCRS standards drive instruction allowing students to learn and incorporate reading literature and information, writing, speaking, and listening. Students learn and apply reading strategies which can be applied across all academic disciplines. Student’s independent reading is emphasized, which allows students to select and read books of their choice.

Any questions? Make sure you let me know if you have any questions about any of this information!
