Let’s read chapter 3

Why is this moment so significant? No we know who stole it… DID YOU KNOW? Orwell said that the disappearance of the milk was one of the crucial moments in the book for the reader. Why is this moment so significant?

Table 3 ‘there were days when the entire work of the farm seemed to rest upon [Boxer’s] mighty shoulders’ (pg. 34) ‘nobody stole, nobody grumbled’ (pg. 34) Table 1 ‘not an animal on the farm had stolen so much as a mouthful’ (pg. 33) ‘worthless parasitical human’ (pg. 34) Table 4 ‘it was noticed that [Snowball and Napoleon] were never in agreement’ (pg. 35) ‘four legs good, two legs bad’ (pg. 37) Table 2 ‘quarrelling and biting and jealously…had almost disappeared’ (pg. 34) ‘the other animals…could never think of any resolutions of their own’ (pg. 35) Table 6 ‘At this some of the other animals murmured, but it was no use’ (pg. 38) ‘The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised others.’ (pg. 33) Table 5 ‘Napoleon…said that the education of the young was more important’ (pg. 38) ‘the importance of keeping the pigs in good health was all too obvious’ (pg. 39) Table 7 ‘it was the biggest harvest that the farm had ever seen’ (pg. 33) ‘painted on it a hoof and a horn in white’ (pg. 35)
