March 16, 2017 Entry task: What idea do you have for your recycle and redesign project? Target: Identify color names and physical features.

Color in Fashion Colors have names and physical features distinguishing them from others~ just like people.

Color Wheel A color wheel is the spectrum bent into a circle. The Color Wheel describes the relationships between colors and a useful tool for organizing colors It is laid out so that any two PRIMARY colors (red, yellow, blue) are separated by the SECONDARY colors (orange, violet, and green).

Primary and Secondary Colors Primary color: Think of the three Primaries as the Parents in the family of colors. In paint pigments, pure Yellow, pure Red, and pure Blue are the only hues that can't be created by mixing any other colors together. Secondary color: a color resulting from the mixing of two primary colors

Color Wheel~ Secondary and Intermediate Colors Tertiary color – equal mixture of a primary and secondary color. Example: red & orange = red-orange Tint – Add white to make a color brighter, pink is a tint of red Shade – add black to make a color darker, burgundy is a shade of red.

Color Characteristics Hue~ refers to a color’s name Value or chroma~ lightness or darkness Intensity or tone~ describes the amount of color present; how bright or dull it is.

The impression color makes Color’s Personality The impression color makes Warm colors. Warm colors express warmth; they are red, yellow and orange. Warms cause and object to appear larger or closer Cool colors. Cool colors have the feel of being cold or cool; they are blue, violet and green. Cools cause an object to appear smaller or farther away

Color Plans Monochromatic – one hue with its tints, shades and tones, ex. Red, pink, mauve, burgundy. Analogous – three or more hues that are next to each other on the color wheel. Ex. Yellow – green, yellow & yellow – orange. Complementary – two colors opposite each other on the color wheel. Ex. Red and green.

Color Schemes Split-Complementary – any color with the two colors on each side of its complement. Ex. Yellow with blue-violet and red-violet. Triadic – three colors that are equally spaced on the color wheel. Ex. Yellow, red and blue. Accented Neutral- Combination of a large are of one or more neutrals with a small area of color Check out http://colorschemedesigner.com/
