TEAS Paragraph TEAS Topic sentence that address the prompt evidence or example Analysis of Evidence or Example Summarizing sentence

What is a TEAS paragraph? TEAS is the structure we use to effectively write and make a point TEAS helps us develop the main point by providing examples, facts, and reasons TEAS paragraphs allow the writer to create a topic, provide evidence to support the topic, analyze the evidence, and summarize the main idea

T – topic sentence The main point of a paragraph A claim that can be explained, proven, supported, and developed Ties to the thesis statement Presents the reader to the ideas the paragraph will focus on

E - evidence The information that explains, proves, illustrates, supports, and develops the point Necessary because it provides the reader with concrete support from readings and research What does evidence look like? Specific data - Definitions Experiences - Facts Quotes - Supporting details

A – analysis The explanation and elaboration of how/why the evidence is relevant the point The analysis is YOUR explanation of the information (written in own words) Every piece of evidence MUST have an analysis - information cannot stand alone because people interpret information in different ways

S – summarize Concluding sentence that reiterates the main points developed throughout the paragraph Signals to the reader that the ideas in this paragraph have ended (allows for easy transition to next paragraph) Should highlight key points in the paragraph while also tying it back to the topic

Identifying teas On your notes page, you are going to identify the different elements of a TEAS paragraph First, underline the topic sentence Next, circle the evidence Put a bracket [ ] around the analysis Draw a squiggly line ~~~~ under the summary sentence
