Factors impacting on Performance Unit 2.1 “From your performance, describe one strength and two areas for development in a performance.”

2.1 Your answer must: Identify 1 strength Provide evidence Why it is an advantage to your performance Then: Identify 2 development needs Why they are a disadvantage to your performance

Strength Example I have identified that my strength in the 800m is concentration. Concentration is the action of focusing one's attention or mental effort. I was able to identify this from watching a video of my performance. I could see that when I'm about to start a race I am getting into the zone and trying to block out the distractions around me so I can fully focus on the race ahead. Also as a result of my concentration, it allowed me to react quickly to the starting gun and get myself into a leading position within the race from the start. Therefore, I had increased my chances of running a fast time and beating my opponents.

Development Needs Example I need to develop my cardio respiratory endurance (CRE). I found that my personal best did not compare favourably to my peers or the times in the UK Athletics shine awards for my age group as I was over 3 minutes slower. I also completed the 12 minute cooper run and the evidence supported CRE as a development need as my distance of 1570m placed me in the ‘requires improvement’ category. I can now see my CRE is holding me back and ultimately slowing me down.

Development Needs Example I plan to work on the leg drive of my running technique. After filming myself over an 800m race, I used the footage with the help of slow motion and freeze frame features to complete a movement analysis sheet. I compared my own performance to the model criteria and found my leg drive to be the weakest part of my action. By lifting my knees too high, I am using more energy than I should and so not running efficiently for the duration of the race which will contribute to fatigue.

Factors impacting on Performance Now it’s your turn to write an answer… Remember! To follow the structure provided
