Welcome to Unit 2! This week, we will… SS8H2: Analyze the colonial period of Georgia’s history. Explain the importance of the Charter of 1732, including the reasons for settlement (philanthropy, economics, and defense). Analyze the relationship between James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi, and Mary Musgrove in establishing the city of Savannah at Yamacraw Bluff. Evaluate the role of diverse groups (Jews, Salzburgers, Highland Scots, and Malcontents) in settling Georgia during the Trustee Period.

Important Vocabulary COLONY: a country or area under the full or partial political control of another country, typically a distant one, and occupied by settlers from that country. TRUSTEE(S): People who hold responsibility on behalf of others. CHARTER: A legal document that grants special rights and privileges REGULATIONS: Government orders HUMANITARIAN: a person who seeks to promote human welfare; a philanthropist.
