BRD presentation on Partnership With SDG center towards meeting SDG goals

BRD The Development Bank of Rwanda Plc (BRD) is Rwanda’s only national Development Finance Institution Public limited company incorporated in 1967 and headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda With a mandate is to support the development of the private sector with a focus on priority sectors aligned to the national strategic goals Since establishment, BRD has contributed to the country’s economic growth through financial investments in key growth areas. Provides equity, debt and mezzanine instruments as well as technical assistance to investees across key sectors of the economy. In debt, BRD provided short, medium and long term financing to facilitate the emergence of a strong private sector, create jobs and contribute to poverty reduction in Rwanda. Over 90% of lending is long-term (more than 5 years) representing a bet on the future of Rwanda

Working with the SDG center……. The Why

Working with SDG center We entered into a working partnership set out to achieve the following objectives Facilitate a long-term collaboration between the BRD and the SDG Center based on similar and complementary interests and capacities, as well as willingness to work together on key matters related to sustainable development and the achievement of the SDGs in Rwanda. Strengthen the development, adaptation and delivery of the best practices, knowledge, technologies and policies to improve attainment of the SDGs in Rwanda through enhancing the capacity of the BRD to identify, analyze, develop and finance SDGs-related projects within Rwanda

Intermediate outcomes in our ongoing partnership

Highlights of the Work carried out and a few of the achievements Carried out an institutional review – which covered Governance, Strategy, Operations, Financial Health including Capitalization, Credit and investment processes, Fund mobilization, Risk Management, Human Resource Management, Monitoring & Reporting, and Regulation. The review also coincided with our Mid-term strategy review which allowed the opportunity to incorporate and align SDG’s to our strategy and our National Strategy for Transformation – NST1. The reviewed allowed to: Revamp credit and investment processes to create efficiencies and accountability. Design Fund Mobilisation strategies and approaches through creating attractive investment stories. Develop of an M&E Plan and Framework. M&E is not new but aggregating and communicating development impact in an integrated way is. What gets measured gets done. Review of the current regulatory framework and its applicability to developments banks Institutional Assessment Aligning BRD operations & Strategy with SDGs Review of Credit Process &Development of Project Appraisal Manual Fund Mobilization Strategy & Approaches M & E Plan & Framework
