MID TERM REVIEW MEETING RESA PROJECT SLOT ANALYSIS: FIRST PHASE 1ST APRIL 2009 UDAI S. MEHTA, CUTS INTERNATIONAL

STRENGHTS Effective link between grassroots consumers and policy makers Support of media, government and regulatory bodies Active involvement of the RG/PAC Members: Sense of ownership Capable and experienced team members Active support of RESA partners: Territory and local level Developed strong and sustainable networks at the grassroots level Demand from local partners to further undertake activities and broaden the geographical scope

LIMITATIONS Limited geographical coverage Short duration: demand for continuous engagement Trainings needs to be conducted more often Different level of competence of local partners Mindset problem at local level It is a advisory body of the project. Each partners will constitute the Reference Group. The project partners will keep the group active by sending project update. Reference Group will review the project progress and guide the partners. The first RG meeting would take place immediately after the field research and baseline survey. A training manual would be developed from the discussion on the (territory-specific) base paper during the RG-I meetings. The second meeting of the group will take place at the end of one year to review the progress of Ist phase and to see as to whether are we going on the right track. Full contact information for RG members, should be complied by the partners in a database, which will be shared with CUTS, to facilitate the distribution of information and organisation of meetings and future activities.

OPPORTUNITIES Indication of government and regulatory bodies to be further involved Demand from Local CSOs to undertake further activities at grassroots level Establishment of a consumer cell at local level: Rajasthan Undertaking capacity building activities at more frequent intervals Replicate the model in S-E Asia or Africa region: CLV region Demand to further engage with the media, policy makers, etc

THREATS Political instability or uncertainty Frequent shuffling of local representative may hinder the advocacy efforts Targeted consumers from GIM Phase I may not be available for the GIM Phase II Limited time period to cover Phase II

WAY FORWARD RESA – a positive step towards reducing gap between consumers and policy makers Demand for long term engagement with consumers at grassroots level Capacity building on a wider scale: cover new consumers Continued support of NORAD Initiate RESA model in new territories Continue the work in the existing territories
