Block Measles and Rubella! Get Vaccinated! PAHO/WHO, along with the countries and territories of the Americas, will be celebrating the 12th Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA) from 26 April to 3 May. The focus of this year’s Week is to encourage people to protect themselves and the Region against the importation of vaccine-preventable diseases, particularly measles and rubella, in the context of the upcoming 2014 Football World Cup.   Mass celebrations, such as the World Cup, attract high numbers of international travelers, and therefore increase the risk of importation of vaccine-preventable diseases to our Region. 19 of the 32 countries participating in the World Cup reported measles cases in 2013. During Vaccination Week this year, nine countries and territories in the Americas will be holding measles and rubella vaccination activities. PAHO/WHO has developed various promotional materials and health alerts for measles and rubella that can be found at www.paho.org/immunization. Block Measles and Rubella! Get Vaccinated!
