Presentation transcript:

Mrs. Hake’s CLASSROOM Friday, April 26th edition 2018-2019 news Week in Review: Sneak Peak This week we learned the importance of caring for the Earth! We discussed what items are recyclable and which items we must throw in the trash. Students made their own lists during groups and practiced sorting recyclable things in the science center. We read Dr. Seuss’ book, The Lorax, and talked about how we could take care of the Earth.. For science, we conducted an experiment on our sponge fish, Fred. We watched how water pollution can harm animals that live in water. We made the Earth in our art center and brainstormed things that the Earth gives us and what we can do for the Earth. We loved our Aullwood field trip! at Next Week Theme of the Week: Laura Numeroff Language concept: Digraphs such as ph, sh, ch, and wh Sci/Social Studies Healthy food choices Math: graphing, writing about math, tens frames Rainbow words: review Contact info: Kari Hake khake@tippcity.k12.oh.us 937-667-2275 Upcoming Events: Friday, April 26th Fun Fair 5–9pm Thursday, May 9th Volunteer Breakfast Friday May 10th Healthy food picnic see attached note Thursday, May 23rd Field Day Monday, May 27th No School (Memorial Day) Thursday, May 30th Last Day of School (Early Release)

Things to Practice END OF YEAR It is hard to believe we are only a few weeks away from summer vacation. In the upcoming weeks I will begin assessing student’s DRA level and assessing for report cards. Great skills to review at home: Counting by 1’s, 5’s, 10’s to 100. Identifying / Writing Numbers to 20 Adding / Subtracting Numbers 0-5 2D / 3D Shapes Identifying / Counting Money Sorting / Extending Patterns Address / Phone Number Practice Reading Strategies: Is the student monitoring his/her reading? Does the student know what strategies to use when he/she comes to an unknown word? (look at the beginning sound, sound the word out, look at the picture) Does the student read with expression? Is the student omitting or inserting words into their reading? Is the student reading punctuation so the story makes sense? Is the student able to comprehend the story? Is the student able to retell the story in his/her own words with little teacher prompting? Things to Practice  Review rainbow words. Practice first grade words Write out words that use smooshes, silent e at the end, lonely vowels, and vowel friends and see if your child can read them. Try to eat something from each food group we will be working on these soon Add small numbers together Subtract small numbers. Sound out to write three sentences. Use space, and punctuation Keep talking about money when you are out and about!!! Keep reading and retell stories in the sequence that you read Make a small change like recycling or reusing to help our Earth Work as a family to clean up outside Adding and subtracting fluently within 5 using flashcards.
