How did it start The Vietnam War started when the leader of North Vietnam Ho Chi Minh wanted to make the whole country a communist country. The U.S. was trying to fight the spread of communism around the world. The Americans had the theory that if Vietnam would turn into a communist country, then all the countries next to it would too.
It was a war, because two countries were fighting against each other over a period of time. But the U.S. never declared war on Vietnam, so if we consider this, it would only be called a conflict.

The oUTCOME The Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese won the war and the country turned into a communist country. There were around 50,000 Americans dead, around 400,000 South Vietnamese, and around 900,000 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces.
