2 Samuel 9 A marvellous manifestation of mercy to a miserable man

2 Samuel 11

David’s descent into sin and deception David’s darkest moment Even the Godliest of men have sin in their hearts

David’s low spiritual condition David allowing his heart to grow cold and casual towards God David allowed the fire of devotion to God to burn low Sin cannot survive in a heart on fire for God. But it thrives in a heart that is cold and damp.  Omission usually precedes commission

David’s low spiritual condition Sin welcome here!

David’s low spiritual condition

Temptation and sin There was a time when David was able to withstand the greatest temptations Quickly pushed the temptation aside and dealt with the situation on the basis of God’s principles David stands and stares and lusts and a plan is born The Law of God is crystal clear

Temptation and sin But God does not require obedience only when it is easy. God requires obedience even when it is hard, no matter what the cost.

The cover up It seems that David got away with it She is pregnant Now David had a problem The only option now is to kill Uriah and take Bathsheba as his wife

The cover up David is able to heave a big sigh of relief No one will ever know Verse 27, “But the thing David had done displeased the Lord.”

You and me? We must be very careful about listening to what our minds tell us about what we deserve In this life we will never reach the point where we are through with sin The best safeguard against sin is to keep our hearts on fire for God Men, be on guard about what you see. Women, be on guard about what you show

You and me? There is no such thing as hidden sin You reap what you sow. Evil acts will reap evil consequences God’s Law is our standard. It must affect the way we behave
