W . A . L . T We are learning to develop an understanding of the physical conditions of environments and how plant and animal adaptations vary between environments.

Physical Conditions

Physical Conditions POLAR DESERT

TASK 1 Answer the following questions in your book: 1) How do these physical conditions impact on the plants and animals living within these environments? 2)  What would happen if the environment in which these plants and animals lived changed in some way. 3) What if the polar regions got warmer? 4) What if there was consistently more rain in a desert region? Answer the following questions in your book:

KEY TERMS Desert Semi – arid: a climate or place that is partially arid, or semi- dry and has less than 20 inches of rain each year Rainfall Temperatures Sunlight

ADAPTATIONS Structural = Behavioural = A characteristic in a plant or in an animal's body that helps it to survive in its environment. Example: protective coloration (camouflage) and the ability to retain water. Actions animals take to survive in their environments. Eg; hibernation, migration, and instincts. Example: Birds fly south in the winter because they can find more food.

STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOURAL

YOUR TASK Create an annotated diagram of a kangaroo – make sure you include adaptations
