Transformation Director General of Health has formed a new Mental Health and Addiction Directorate. Created new teams & brought together existing ones. Robyn Shearer, new Deputy Director-General Mental Health and Addiction.

Our vision Together we can transform our mental health and addiction system, putting people at the centre. The Ministry of Health has a stewardship role.

Government’s response to He Ara Oranga In May 2019, they agreed to, agreed in principle or agreed to further consideration of 38 of the 40 recommendations.

The Wellbeing Budget 2019 $1.9 billion for mental wellbeing. Many of the new mental health and addiction initiatives led by health: www.health.govt.nz/budget2019-mha The rest led by other agencies – Corrections, MSD etc.

Sequencing & prioritising Some work is progressing urgently. Budget expands many existing services. However, some initiatives will take longer with changes to the system brought to life over many years.

Expanding access and choice $455.1 million in Budget 2019 funding Rolled out over 5 years More choice across kaupapa Māori, Pacific, community and youth settings, and general practices. Co-design is essential. More details to come.

Workforce Key transformation enabler and constraint We want to build new workforces, e.g. peer- workforce Alongside expanding access and choice Budget 2019 initiatives will help in this space.
