international hydrographic organization: HISTORY AND CONSTITUTION

The iho hydrographic commission on antarctica (HCA) “To achieve the improvement of the quality, coverage and availability of nautical charting and other hydrographic information and services covering the Antarctic region” 24 Member States (AR, AU, BR, CL, CN, CO, DE, EC, FR, GR, IN, IT, JP, KR, NZ, NO, PE, RF, SP, GB, US, UY, VE, ZA) Active Partners and Expert Contributors (ATS, COMNAP, IAATO, GEBCO/IBCSO) What do we do? Assess status of charting and hydrographic knowledge Monitor user requirements – propose new applications Coordinate subsequent actions

IHO Data Centre for Digital Bathymetry (DCDB) Objectives of the seminar IHO Data Centre for Digital Bathymetry (DCDB) - Present the status of hydrographic collaboration and knowledge in Antarctica to raise the awareness of the ATCM delegations on its fundamental importance. - Assess the impact of this situation on the overarching ATCM goals in view of Antarctic sciences, safety at sea, global climate change modelling, etc.). Source: https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/iho/ - Identify the existing assets, programmes, policy drivers and governance mechanisms to improve the situation. Source: https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/iho/ - Provide key objectives and strategic advice so that HCA can work on a set of pragmatic actions and an implementation plan to be reported periodically to ATCM.
