Biography James Naismith was born November 6, 1861 in Almonte,Ontario,Canada. He is the second child of Scottish immigrants. When he grew up he was a athlete so around the age twenty he wanted to be a sports coach. About 5 years later some kids were bored and had a lot of energy but didn’t have a way to use it because the winters there were cold so they couldn’t play football. So he invented basketball! To keep the kids active in the winter. He also invented the first football helmet and the first basketball rule book. He died November 28,1939 at Lawrence,Kansas

Invention James Naismith is most known for inventing basketball. One day in the winter all the kids had a lot of energy but no way to use it. During that time Mr.Nasmith was teaching a class, then they asked can you make a game for us he said sure. The game was going to be called basket ball.He thought about the game that he played when he was younger you had to throw the pebble into a peach basket, so he thought I can just make a game sorta like that. So, he cut a bottom of a peach basket and got a soccer and started to shoot the ball. He also made the first basketball rulebook and the first football helmet.
