I can use visual and written clues to describe the setting. 3rd Grade Literacy I can compare and contrast to aid comprehension. I can use background knowledge to aid comprehension. I can develop oral vocabulary. I can understand the elements of expository text. 2nd Grade Science I can identify the body’s sense organs. I can describe how sense organs allow people to find out about their surroundings. 3rd Grade Science I can describe what makes up an ecosystem. I can explain how living things get what they need. 2nd Grade Math - My 2nd graders will be working on subtracting numbers up to 1,000 with and without regrouping and solving real-world subtraction problems. 3rd Grade Math - My 3rd graders will be working on subtraction up to 10,000 with and without regrouping and solving word problems. 2nd Grade Social Studies - This week we will enjoy reading the books called If You Lived in the Times of the American Revolution and If You Lived During the Colonial Times. 3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd graders will be enjoying a unit on the thirteen colonies. 4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be taking a test over chapter 2 this week, and will begin to study land formations. October 14-18 Weekly Reminders Austin Tracy Shirt Orders are due by Friday, October 18th Austin Tracy BETA Car Show - Saturday, October 19th Family Literacy Night - Monday, October 21st (5:00) Family Literacy Night - Activities include chili/soup supper, recipe reading, reading craft directions, reading scavenger hunt directions, and sight word bingo. We will be doing Fitness Testing this week. Therefore, tennis shoes for PE is a must!! Rogers 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills, strategies to become better readers, and key vocabulary words. This week students will be able to determine the author's purpose of writing a story, while identifying the problem/conflict, rising action, and climax of a story. 5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills, strategies to become better readers, and key vocabulary words. This week students will be able to correctly sequence the events from a story while using transition words, such as, first, next, then, finally, etc.
Wells Crowder Rice Linder We will be multiplying and dividing decimals for the next couple of weeks. Students will have homework on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in order to retain as much skill as possible. There are links on my webpage if you need some extra reinforcement. Math In fifth grade, we will learn to add and subtract unlike fractions and mixed numbers in Chapter 3. This will also include expressing fractions and mixed numbers as decimals. Keep encouraging your child to practice facts at home and work on Drops in the Bucket throughout the week. Social Studies In fifth grade social studies, students will compare the British colonies in America. They will work in groups to create billboards to promote key features of each region, such as geography and climate, availability of jobs and government. In sixth grade, students will begin a study of Central America and the Caribbean Islands. I am very proud of my sixth grade students. They wrote wonderful, creative myths about a natural feature of Latin America in groups. Wow, what imaginations they have!!! Crowder Math - This week we are revisiting factors, estimation and multiples. We will assess midweek. Later this week we will begin our unit on multiplying and dividing whole numbers Science - This week in science we will be reviewing for our test over living things and assess mid week. We will begin our unit on the water cycle next. Bowen 5th Grade Science Classes – Fifth graders will be looking at ecosystems. 6th Grade Science Classes – Sixth graders will be working on conservation essays this week! Language Classes – Students will be conferenced with this week and discussions will take place about the scoring of their narratives. We continue to improve and begin work on passage based writing. Here are this years academic team members! Sydney Ballard, Elizabeth Greever, Cody Copas, Blake Knight, Andrew Curasi, Kyle Melton, Caden Costello, Mitch Williams, Layne Goodman Rice Writer's Workshop The Mystery has begun. We are currently writing on our imagined mystery narrative. Ask your child often how he/she is doing in writing class. Encourage him/her to listen in class so that his/her paper is the best. 6th Grade Writing We have been refusing to feed our Bad Habits In Writing. It won't be much longer and we will have to call 9-1-1 and send our Bad Habits to the hospital. Encourage your child to continue to starve his/her Bad Habits In Writing. Have him/her tell you about his/her Bad Habit. Daily 5 Literacy We are ready to begin our 2nd Nine Weeks with a much better independent attitude about reading. Our concept/skill this week is THEME. Theme is one of our harder concepts and we will be digging deep into what Theme means and how to find it in our stories. Rock On! .
