District 7870 Goals – 2018-2019 Every Rotarian Contributes Something Every Club gets involved in a Global Grant $25,000 Give Away 1 – 2 – 3 Work with a Club in any other Rotary Country Raise $10,000 – With Help of Club Members, Other Clubs, other sources Design and implement a sustainable Global Grant in one of the six areas of focus District 7870 and The Rotary Foundation will give you $25,000 for your Grant Review Mission (EMPHASIZE THE UNDERLINED WORDS!!). It is not the Rotary Foundation that directs where this money goes. It is the Rotary Clubs and their Rotarians who develop the projects and apply for the funds. Some of these projects have grown far beyond the initial Club and District initiatives, such as Polio Eradication, thanks to the support from OUR Rotary Foundation! Review Motto. Support, even from Rotarians, cannot be required. It is voluntary, attracted by the work Rotarians do, and their effectiveness in finishing the projects. Finally: OUR Foundation will celebrate its centennial during your year. What will your Club do to show your community the good it can help you do?

Frequently Asked Questions What support may we expect from the Governor? Governor Venu has committed to match the first thousand dollars each club raises for a Global Grant. What is the hardest part? It’s often the design and budgeting of the project itself. Most often, the Clubs engage a Cooperating Organization who designs, prices and implements the Grant. How do we find a Club in another Country to work with? Speak with the District Governor of District Rotary Foundation Chair. How will the two Clubs be related? The Club in the country where the Grant will be performed is “The Host Club.” The Club in the other country is “The International Club.” Can the Grant be performed here in District 7870, or must it be in the other Country? It can be in either. The rules don’t require the money to go from a “have country” to a “have not country.” They require two different Rotary countries to be involved. This promotes world peace by getting like-minded people in different countries to learn to work together, understand and like each other. Most often the money goes from have to have not, but not always. The DG and DRFC can help. What must my Club do to become “Qualified?” One member must attend a Grant Seminar each Rotary Year, and the Club must annually sign and follow the Club Memorandum of Understanding. Where can we get ideas for our Global Grant Project? A great source of projects & partners is www.matchinggrants.org/global. The DG, DRFC, your exchange students, other clubs, and even clubs in other Districts can all help. How can I get more information? Rotary.org and the District Website have a lot of materials. The DFRFC will be happy to help you find what you need. Naturally, the sooner you attend a Global Grant Seminar, the sooner you’ll feel comfortable with the process. What are some of the challenges? First, working with the host club you’ll need to assess local needs. Second, you’ll want to design your project to assure it is sustainable. Third, you’ll want your results to be measurable. And fourth, your project will need to comport with one of the six areas of focus. How many of our District’s sixty Clubs can participate? We would be delighted if all sixty participated in some fashion. Clearly we don’t have enough funds for all sixty to lead full $35,000 Global Grants. In most cases, however, multiple clubs will be needed to raise the initial $10,000. We believe we can fund over $250,000. This means that if ten Clubs take a lead role, and each engages five other clubs to assist, all sixty clubs could benefit from this $25,000 give away. Any Other responsibilities if we become a Lead Club? Yes. We very much hope each lead club will keep their funding partners engaged and informed. Share the enthusiasm. If my club chooses not to lead a Global Grant can we still benefit? Yes, of course. If you contribute to a Global Grant lead by another Club either in our District or beyond, the District Governor will still match your first $1,000, and The District, and the Foundation will still match your contribution and his. Will we be plowing new ground? No. Clubs in our Districts have lead and funded twenty one Global Grants in the past four years. We have a lot of experience to share. Must our Club Travel to the Grant Site? Not necessarily. Except for special cases, the Grant cannot be used to fund Rotarian Travel. We very much encourage, however, that Club members make the trip where possible and affordable. Most Rotarians experience real joy from seeing first hand the fruits of their Grants.
