Introduction to VistaPHw Report Function Brought to you by: The Vista Partnership Based on: A Reference Guide for VistaPHw Reports March 2006

Training Goals Users will be able to set up and run a single report showing the 10 leading causes of death in Pierce county compared to Washington State.

What Does the Report Function Do? Allows the user to create summary reports for a health Assessment Topic Compares Primary groups (single or multiple) to a single Comparison group The comparison group may be either based on place (geography) or race. Results display significance and trends.

Creating a New Report When a report is available for an assessment topic, the Add Report Button will be visible at the bottom of the Vista screen. Clicking the button opens up new options. Follow the instructions as they appear in the Instruction box. Start with the Deaths Assessment Topic. Change from NCHS ICD10 Causes to NCHS Leading Causes. Click the Add New Report button.

First click on State Total. It will turn green, indicating that it is the comparison group. The text in the box next to the add reports button changes, asking for primary place. Click Pierce, which will turn grey. At any point in time, if you want to change your selections, press clear to start fresh.

Comparison and Primary Groups The selected comparison groups will appear with a GREEN background. Primary group selection(s) are highlighted in GRAY. In this example, STATE is the comparison group and Pierce is the Primary. After these selections, the instructions now read Choose YEAR.

Select the Year(s) The initial YEAR selected will represent the TREND end point. Clicking an earlier YEAR completes the TREND selection and choices will be summarized below in the TREND detail box. Right-clicking on a previously made selection will deselect that choice. First click 2003 for the trend end-point, then click The Trend Years box will change to Only 2003 will be highlighted in grey.

Choose Ranking Ranking is not available for all assessment topics, but if RANKING is not grayed out, users can chose from 1 to the maximum number of subsets from the RANKING drop-down box. Click on the down arrow and change this to 10. When all selections have been made for the Report, Ready Bars will change from RED to GREEN. Click LAUNCH or SEND TO STREAM (if you are running multiple reports, not covered in this training).

Launch! Choosing the LAUNCH option will open the Report Summary tab of the LAUNCH PANEL. Here, youll find a brief synopsis of selected report. When ready, click Run Stream to generate the report.

Reading the Output, Ranking This is the Excel output. In this example, the top 10 causes of death in 2003 for Pierce County are ranked and compared to the State. The output gives counts, rates, and confidence intervals for a single year (2003). It also shows the corresponding rank for the State. For example, Accidents and external causes was Pierce Countys 5 th leading cause of death, but it was the 6 th leading cause statewide.

Reading the Output, Trends Trend direction is given in the TREND column. These trends are for the time period All Causes, Diseases of the Heart, and Malignant Neoplasms were all trending down (p means non- significant. Trend rates may not be reliable when the average count over the trend years falls below 5, and would be listed in the table as avCnt<5.

Reading the Output, SigDiff Significant difference (SigDiff) between Primary and Comparison groups are given. The rate for heart disease death in Pierce county was 15.71% higher than the state. means there were no significant differences between Pierce and Washington. If the number in the significant difference column was negative, it would mean the rate was less than the comparison group.

What is NOT Covered in this Training Advanced options from the Launch Panel –Saving and modifying reports –Starting new reports –Retrieving saved reports –Multiple reports Editing and altering existing reports Report Script Language These will be moderate and advanced trainings. For more information about these topics, please consult the Reference Guide for Report Function.
