McClure Middle School Open House Mrs. Ussery English Language Arts

University of Maryland Baltimore County Kennesaw State University ~ Master of Education Love teaching at McClure Have always wanted to be a teacher! Live in West Cobb Children attend Vaughan Elementary School & Lost Mountain Middle School

Love working with students & want your student to be successful! Communicating with you is very important to me Main priority is to encourage students to let them know I care about them Realize each student is unique and learns differently

Textbook: SpringBoard English Language Arts Textbooks and journals stay in classroom Cost to replace if lost: $75.00 Students can access the textbook online

Usually unfinished classwork (on occasion) Students required to independently read outside of school Independent reading is key for academic success monitoring amount of pages read and vocabulary

Journals enables students to be creative, independent thinkers and writers used for class notes, vocabulary, free writing, response to readings important part of our class, used daily

Winter Novel Study The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer (does not count as independent reading) Great if student has his/her own copy, but not required. Students should NOT read ahead – Sabotages use of the text for lessons on predicting, inferencing, foreshadowing, etc. AND students spoil the book for other students.

Assignments must be on time, but late work is accepted Point will be deducted for each day late, not to exceed two weeks Students may also email their work to Mrs. Ussery if needed. Technology failure (“my printer ran out of ink”) is NOT an acceptable excuse for late work All work must be completely ready to turn in at the beginning of the class period on the due date. Students will not be allowed to print work at the beginning of class on the due date Library Commons available for printing
