Vocab # 10 Mr. Addeo

Sea floor spreading The process by which molten material adds new oceanic crust to the ocean floor.

Mid ocean ridge An undersea mountain chain where new ocean floor is produced; a divergent plate boundary under the ocean.

A valley that forms where two plates move apart (divergent boundary). Rift valley A valley that forms where two plates move apart (divergent boundary).

Scientific theory A well-tested explanation for a wide range of observations; do not become laws.

Scientific model Simplified version of some part of the natural world that helps explain how it functions.
