Reliability Workshop Summary Branden Sudduth Director, Reliability Risk Management Western Electricity Coordinating Council

Reliability Workshop Logistics Objective of starting discussion to develop WECC’s Near-Term Priorities Held in conjunction with the March OC, MIC, and RAC meetings Built off of work done by the NERC Reliability Issues Steering Committee (RISC) Background presentations Table top discussions and report outs Western Electricity Coordinating Council

RISC Inherent Risk Mapping Western Electricity Coordinating Council

Western Electricity Coordinating Council Discussion Questions What, if any, risk profiles are missing from the NERC RISC and WIRAB reports specific to the Western Interconnection? Which, if any, risk profiles identified in the NERC RISC and WIRAB reports are not risks in the Western Interconnection? Are there special nuances to any of the risk profiles that need to be addressed differently in the Western Interconnection? Do you agree with the prioritization of risk profiles in the NERC RISC report for the Western Interconnection? How would you prioritize the risk profiles? Given the discussion at your table and focusing on actions WECC can undertake, what should WECC’s near-term priorities be? Western Electricity Coordinating Council

Common Themes and Takeaways All RISC Risk Profiles applicable in the Western Interconnection Understanding issues from potential Reliability Coordinator (RC) and market changes should be high priority Uniqueness of extreme natural events in the Western Interconnection Expansive geography and remoteness of assets creates nuances in managing cyber and physical security risks Need to better understand impacts from increasing Distributed Energy Resources Western Electricity Coordinating Council
