Sonoma Clean Power – Heat Pump Water Heater Strategy

Why Heat Pump Water Heaters? First stated mission of the joint power’s authority establishing SCP is “reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Sonoma County and neighboring regions.” Electrification programs can not easily be accomplished by IOU programs (yet!) Load management can help with offsetting emissions in evening ramp period and can help provide resource adequacy.

New Construction Strategy Seed heat pump water heaters through Advanced Energy Rebuild program. (~60 currently installed) Monitor uncontrolled loads. Follow up by offering for demand control integration through GridSavvy Community.

Retrofit Strategy $750 retrofit midstream incentive based on GHG savings potential. Hit multiple markets (storefront, online webstore, self install, distribution channels) Multiple follow up strategies for DR enrollment (contractorr training, direct mail, water heater sticker)
