Propaganda A Powerful Tool

What is propaganda? Information purposefully presented to influence public feeling to promote or injure a nation of people, a belief, a company, etc. Can be used to promote a commercial product but mainly promotes a political agenda.

Where is Propaganda? It can mainly be seen on television, on the radio, the internet, and posters. It can also be intertwined into literary works, such as short stories and novels.

How can we view propaganda? Propaganda can take the form of leaflets, posters, TV, and radio broadcasts. It may also extend to any other medium.

Propaganda- World War II Nazi propaganda was used during World War II to persuade people to go against the Jew. American propaganda was used to persuade people to go against the Japanese in America during WWII. “Long Live Germany”

Bandwagon An appeal to others to join the crowd in order to be on the winning side.

Card Stacking Presenting only the information that is positive while omitting contrary to that idea

Glittering Generality Uses positive words or emotions for a product or idea but does not present a concrete argument.

Name Calling The use of derogatory language or carries a negative connotation.

Plain Folks Attempting to convince the public that one’s views reflect those of the common person

Testimonial Use of a quote or endorsement that attempts to connect a famous or respectable person to a product or item.

Transfer Projecting positive or negative qualities of a person, place, or entity to another to make the second more acceptable or to discredit it.
