Lets Set Up an Experiment A guy claimed that miracle grow makes a plant grow bigger.

What’s the first thing we do? State the Problem or Question: Does Miracle Grow Make a Plant grow Larger?

Next, State our hypothesis A Hypothesis should be written in the IF/Then statement.

Ok, you have your Question and Hypothesis What should we do next? List all materials that you will use. Two plants of equal height and same type (constant) 50 mL ofWater(constant) 50 mL of soil (constant) 25 mL of miracle grow (variable)

Now Its Time to Design the Experiment Control Group Experimental Group Step 1: Place plant in cup and pour10 mL of water on it. Record the beginning plant height. Step 2: Allow 1 week to pass then record the plant height. Step 1: Place plant in cup and pour 10 mL of water on it. Record the beginning plant height. Step2: Add 25 mL of Miracle Grow. Step3: Allow 1 week to pass then record the plant height. Did you notice the only difference between the control group and experimental group is the addition of the Independent Variable ( The variable that will intentionally change The experiment).

Lets Analyze our data. Experimental Group (with Miracle Grow) Control Group (no Miracle Grow) After one week: The plant grew 1 cm After one week: The plant grew none. Notice: Does our data tend to support our hypothesis?

Result I accept my hypothesis, the hypothesis was correct. Keep in Mind that it is ok if your experiment did not support your hypothesis.

Practice makes Perfect. Now you try this one: A man wanted to know which flea medicine would protect his dogs the best. He tested, advance, and frontline. He also used a control group ( One dog was given no flea medicine). Design the Experiment Do not worry about the Analysis or Result.
