MYEEU Project JUNE 17th - 21th 2019 ONGA, Hungary Portugal European Elections 2019 MYEEU Project JUNE 17th - 21th 2019 ONGA, Hungary

This was the eighth European election held in Portugal Turnout, again, fell to the lowest level ever, with only 31.4% of voters Abstention reached an unprecedented level of 99.04% for Portuguese citizens living abroad

The big surprise of the elections was the result of People-Animals-Nature (PAN) with 5.1% of the votes and was able to elect its first ever European Parliament member The Socialist Party (PS) was the winner of the elections, scoring 33.4% of the vote The Social Democratic Party (PSD) achieved its worst results ever as a standalone party, with 21.9% of the vote.

The anticipated loss of European funds in the European Union’s new long-term budget and national issues were the main themes in the Portuguese EU election campaign, which are seen as a warming up for the national elections in October.
