Chisholm Skills and Jobs Centre – Job Ready Menu Where the Jobs Are: a facilitated workshop detailing the 5 top industry sectors poised for growth, and linked to vocational courses How to Navigate Choosing a Course: a facilitated workshop which provides step by step advice on understanding your unique attributes, drivers and questions you should consider before enrolling in a course How to Build a Resume : a facilitated workshop which provides insight into identifying and describing transferable skills in a resume format and developing an awareness of online job application algorithms How to Job Search: a facilitated workshop which guides the job seeker through popular online platforms and networking strategies Interview Skills: a facilitated workshop which explains the recruitment process and teaches behavioural interviewing skills The First 90 Days: a facilitated workshop which details the appropriate responses and behaviour during the first 90 days of a new job.

Chisholm Skills and Jobs Centre Clients 5425 Clients in 2018 3388 Clients in 2017 +60% annual increase In 2018, the Chisholm Skills and Job Centre (CSJC) focus was to promote the brand and increase the reach of the centre across local community and industry, which led to a 60% increase in the number of people accessing our services.

Youth Statistics Aged 18 – 24 Years 603 young people aged under 25 accessed the services of the Chisholm SJC in 2018 - the youth cohort formed 11.1% of our total attendance 84 of these youths were Chisholm students, and we were able to broker employment opportunities for 63% National youth unemployment rate – 12.2% Local youth unemployment rate (SE Melbourne) – 15.1% Client DNA statistics are self reported and thereby many job seekers do not disclose their unique profile, including their age bracket.

What are the challenges faced when engaging with young people and how can we overcome them? Using the appropriate technology and approach to connect with a youth audience Communication channels Encouraging employer flexibility if location is not easily accessible on public transport, or lobbying local government for additional services Transport Casualisation creating chronic youth underemployment across a number of industries Educating young people about the conditions in these sectors Labour market conditions Industry-based learning/volunteer opportunities Micro-credentials Bridging the gap between study and employment Comprehensive training for employers in the barriers faced by young people and how they can better support a youth workforce Lack of employer education Lack of integration within the network Linking young people with other local service providers who can give supplementary support to address barriers Service provider network
