TODAY’S OBJECTIVES- Social Studies Vocab Objectives: You will be able to (SWBAT): Identify meaning of a word synonym and word associations in the context of word clusters. Use everyday example to demonstrate synonyms and word clusters via a graphic organizer. Using the list of this year’s Tier 2 and 3 Social Studies vocabulary words previously learned or discussed via the curriculum, complete a word cluster graphic organizer using the target word “fight.” Procedure (WE DO and YOU DO): Explain what is a synonym and elicit some examples. Also explain word associations (related to meaning but don’t mean exactly the same thing). Using the word “big,” demonstrate and students complete a word cluster graphic organizer for that word. Teacher provides the word “conflict” in the center of a second word cluster graphic organizer. Then students review the list of this year’s Tier 2 and 3 Social Studies vocabulary words previously learned or discussed via the curriculum and find at least 3 words associated with, and/or synonyms of, the word “conflict.”
