Alekseev, NNSTU is a Federal Basic University, a leading regional University, one of the oldest and largest technical universities in Russia, successfully implementing the program of strategic development. NNSTU is a key element of the educational complex of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the Volga Federal district and Russia, successfully solves the problem of providing the real sector of the economy with engineering, management and scientific personnel of high qualification. NNSTU carries out comprehensive research and maintains a high level of innovative activity. The University is included in the national register «Leading scientific organizations of Russia». NNSTU has competence Centers of large international companies (ThyssenKrupp, Autodesk, MSC Software, Microsoft, Nupas Cadmatic, etc.). The creation of competence Centers and the conclusion of contracts was an important step in the development of international scientific and technical cooperation and actively promotes the products of the University partners on the Russian market. Over the years of its existence, NNSTU has trained more than 250 thousand engineers, scientific and technical workers, teachers. Today, graduates of NNSTU head more than 300 industrial enterprises of Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod region and Russia. Training is carried out on 21 integrated group of specialties: management in technical systems, electro- and heat power, history and archeology, aviation and rocket and space technology, media and information and library science, materials technology, engineering, engineering and technology of shipbuilding and water transport, technology and ground transport technology, technosphere safety and environmental engineering, photonics, instrumentation, optical and biotechnical systems and technologies, industrial ecology and biotechnology, chemical technology, applied geology, mining, oil and gas business and geodesy, weapons and weapons systems, electronics, radio engineering and communication systems, nuclear energy and technology, computer science and engineering, mathematics and mechanics, technosphere safety and environmental engineering. NNSTU today has 7 educational and research institutes, 3 faculties, 2 branches, 58 departments, more than 20,000 students, 400 graduate students and doctoral students, 3000 teachers and staff, 44 basic schools.

NNSTU has created an innovative system of basic departments in industrial enterprises, basic research laboratories in the University from enterprises and student design bureaus. This mechanism of interaction between the University and enterprises has shown its high efficiency in improving the quality of training and allows to involve teachers and students of the University in the development of advanced models of equipment and technologies, as well as to minimize the period of adaptation of the graduate in the conditions of real production. Almost all large enterprises of Nizhny Novgorod region and many enterprises of Russia are partners of NNSTU. NNSTU is the University-coordinator of educational and scientific projects implemented in the system of training of engineers for enterprises and corporations of the Volga Federal district. The University has students and experts from countries near and far abroad: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, China, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Tunisia, Court-d'Ivoire, DRC, Congo, Iraq, Angola, Iran, Sudan, Nigeria, Colombia, Serbia, Morocco, Tanzania, Sudan, Jordan, Pakistan, USA, India, China. All foreign students and graduate students are provided with housing. NNSTU has a campus, which includes 5 hostels for 2,400 seats, a hotel, canteens and buffets, a gym, athletics and volleyball courts.
