First … Do exercise 1 on the worksheet: talk about the picture with your group and discuss how tidal power generates electricity.

Next 2. Look at the following picture slides and check if you described the process correctly in exercise 1.

The energy in tides can be harnessed to produce electricity.

Tidal power stations are usually built near the mouths of rivers Tidal power stations are usually built near the mouths of rivers. As the water moves up the river at high tide

it passes through the turbines in the power station, causing them to spin.

As the turbines spin they drive a generator, which makes electricity.

When low tide comes, the water starts to move the other way and the process is repeated.

Electricity is sent via pylons and cables to homes around the country.

Now … Do exercise 2 on the worksheet: write sentences using the prompts. 4. Do exercise 3 on the worksheet: complete the gaps.
