Presentation transcript:

..but why? If you wanted to learn how this was built… Mark Zuckerberg – the idea, founder, builder. This man will know the truth right back its origins. Getting the students to think about why faith and salvation are best achieved through the Catholic Church. If you wanted to learn how this was built… …in an ideal world you’d want to speak to him… ..but why?

10.2.1 The Catholic Church as a means to faith and salvation By the end of this lesson you should: Grade C – Explain what is means to say the Church is a means to Faith and Salvation Grade B – Analyse whether you think the Church is the only means to Faith and Salvation Grade A/A* - Justify the view that the Catholic Church provides the best environment to nurture faith

Grade C – Explain what is means to say the Church is a means to Faith and Salvation Firstly, it is important to Catholics that their faith is the ‘one true faith’, handed down from the apostles. This is called Apostolic Tradition. Secondly, because the faith of the Church brings salvation as belief in Christ leads to eternal life in heaven. Thirdly, it is important that people are guided into faith. The Church through it’s worship and teaching provide guidance for all Christians for example the Catechism and the Creed. Lastly, it is important that people are provided with support and strength in their faith journey. The Church through the sacraments provide spiritual strength to Catholics. Write down the green words and find a definition for them. Draw a picture of the red words and label them. What would you give this answer out of 8 marks. Give one reason why.

Grade B – Analyse whether you think the Church is the only means to Faith and Salvation Salvation = to be saved Do you think we have to be a part of the Church to have true Faith and Salvation? How else do we develop our Faith and achieve Salvation?

Grade A/A* - Justify the view that the Catholic Church provides the best environment to nurture faith/achieve salvation Write a speech to justify the view that the Church provides the best means to nurture faith and salvation (even if you disagree, try to be persuasive). Use the following evidence: Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6) Baptism – washing away the original sin Reconciliation – gives absolution declaring the forgiveness of sins Penitential rite at Mass – gives people a chance to confess their sins Priest’s advice
