Greek Wars

1. The Trojan War (1250 BCE) A. Real: War over trade between Greeks and Troy B. Legend: War over a girl! (Helen) DON’T WRITE Trojan prince Paris kidnapped Helen, wife of King Menelaus and most beautiful woman on Earth Greeks went to get her back. After 10 years of stalemate, they left the “Trojan Horse” filled with hidden warriors including Odysseus Trojan brought it in and Greeks burned the city.

2. The Persian War

A. In 499 B.C., the Ionians rebelled against the Persian Empire so Athens sent ships to help them.

B. Darius I sent a huge force to punish Athens at Marathon. The Athenians won & sent Phidippides back 26.2 miles to Athens to tell of the victory.
