FAQ about District Honor Choir

District Honor Choir? Why? 1. Meet great singers from all over the district. 2. Experience the thrill of singing with an amazing choir, world class director, and the Allen Symphony Orchestra 3. Become a better singer – this will help you next year! (whether you choose choir, band or orchestra!) 4. Enjoy singing some of the most beautiful music ever written for children’s choir.

What is My Time Commitment? Please check the official letter for all of the exact dates, but here are the basics… In November you choose Tuesday the 27th or Thursday the 29th from 3:45 – 5:30 to come and try out at Lowery Freshman Center. Rehearsals are all Tuesdays- Jan. 15, 22, 29, Feb. 5, 12, 19, 26. Concert on February 26th at 7:00 pm then you are done!

You choose a date, show up and sing America. How does this all work? You choose a date, show up and sing America. You Echo three short phrases. You are polite and confident! I will let you know as soon as I know if you made the choir.

Audition Tips…. Keep this in mind…..Everyone is nervous. Your judges will be other music teachers in town. They like kids and they are rooting for you! They have to say “yes” or “no” according to what they hear in a very short amount of time. Practicing will help you do your best. They are looking to see if you can blend with other singers in a choir! (No “American Idols” here please!) To avoid standing in a long line….. Come as early as you can on either day, but especially on the first day. Or, come at 5:15 on either day. It is not that bad standing in line though. You will fill out forms and meet other singers. You can do homework or read a book or play with your phone or sing!
