2 Timothy 2:15 Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth
A Warning: There Is An Improper Handling The admonition is meaningless if no danger The Scriptures may be wrested {twisted} (2 Peter 3:16) A distorted scripture damages, destroys Classes who distort: unlearned & unstable God’s word can be handled deceitfully (2 Cor. 4:2)
A Possibility: Handling God’s Word Properly Respect for the word (1 Thess. 2:13) God is the source (2 Tim. 3:16-17) This is what will judge us (Jn. 12:48) A powerful critic (Heb. 4:12) “Discern” = critic or judge Able to make proper and correct discrimination
An Application Distinguishing between two Testaments is crucial God promised a New Covenant (Heb. 8:7-13) The first was taken away (Heb. 10:9-10) Law has been changed (Heb. 7:12) Jesus is our high priest (Heb. 3:1) Not of the tribe of Levi (Heb. 7:14) God speaks through Christ (Heb. 1:1-2) Salvation first spoken by the Lord (Heb. 2:1-4)
God saves those who obey Christ (Heb. 5:9) Sin and salvation All have sinned (Rom. 3:23) All need salvation (1 Tim. 2:3-4) Christ and His gospel are the answer (Rom. 1:16)
